Dehler workforce applies for insolvency - Germany. Dehler workforce applies for insolvency proceedings Thursday, 18 December 2008.
Staff of yacht builder, Dehler instigated the opening of insolvency proceedings, in the Arnsberg District Court, which resulted in the appointment yesterday of a provisional insolvency administrator, Axel Kampmann.
The workers action was brought with the help of the Metal Workers Union and, according to union secretary, Fritz Kramer, the decision was first considered, last Wednesday, after workers expressed fears that van den Berg intended to sell of the Dehler name, drawings and other assets.
The final decision was not, however, taken until Monday. At the end of October, workers had been told by van Berg that a €4 million bank guarantee North Rhine Westphalia had ensured the company’s future, but it became clear on Monday that the bank’s requirements concerning a second managing director and other clauses had not been fulfilled and the money would not, therefore, be available. The workers then brought the action, without informing van den Berg.
Dehler production has been at low level for some months but, according to staff, there is no lack of orders simply a lack of capital to purchase materials to fulfil those orders. They blame the problems on mismanagement that led to the company growing too much and developing larger models at great expense.
The staff is now hoping that, under the guidance of administrator Kampmann, production can be restarted and 180 workers jobs saved.
